Samus Meets John
Chapter 2
Showdown at the Dawn

Samus followed John down another corridor toward one of the ship’s armory stations.  “So, does this ship have a name?” asked Samus.  “Yeah, it’s called ‘The Dawn’.” replied John.  “Nice name” said Samus.  “Here we are” said Cortana through John’s external speakers.  “Armory station 7B”  John managed to force the damaged door to slide open.  Samus whistled as she looked around the room.  Every wall was absolutely covered with weapons, ammo, and boxes of grenades.  “So, why are we here again?  You already have that rifle an plenty of ammo for it” Samus said.  John didn’t even look at her.  He just floated toward a locker, pried it open and pulled out about ten duffle bags.  Talk about giving somebody the cold shoulder Samus thought.  At that moment John had thrown four duffle bags at her.  She managed to catch them.  “Fill them up” he said.  Samus scowled the Spartan.  But as soon as she did, John turned his head toward her.  Though his helmet blocked his face, she could tell he was glaring at her.  “Hey!  Sam!  We got a problem” said Adam over Samus’s helmet internal speakers.  “What”  “It seems the space pirates want to finish what they started.  Finish up in there and get out of there.  Now!!”  Great she thought.  “Something wrong?” asked John  “We got company.  Not human.  And defiantly not friendly” she said.  “Understood” was his only response.  He grabbed an S2-AM Sniper Rifle from it’s storage rack, pulled a fresh clip from a box of sniper mags, lined it up with the gun.  Slid the clip in and slammed it home.  He jerked the locking pin back as a single round slid into place.  As he released the pin the bullet was rammed into the firing chamber with a satisfying click.  John floated back toward the door, as he passed Samus, he said “Fill up those bags with as many weapons, ammo, and grenades as you can.  I’ll keep our new guests entertained” Smiling, Samus said “Play nice.”  John managed a small chuckle, which surprised Samus.  She thought the only emotion that Spartans could feel was anger.  Maybe he’s different she thought.

Ten minutes had passed, Samus was down to the last duffle bag.  So far, the pirates hadn’t shown their scaly faces.  “I wonder what keeping them”  she said.  “They’re probably searching the rest of the Dawn.”  At that moment, Samus heard a loud bang followed by a thud and vibration in the floor, causing her to almost jump.  ‘Not that she could since they were in a zero-G environment.’  “What was that!?” she yelled.  “Headshot.  Hostile down” was his only response.  Damn!  He must be one hell of a shot! She thought.  She zipped the final duffle shut and threw it next to the others.  “Alright.  You’re toys packed.  All you need now is your tooth brush” she said.  And with that, John slid the sniper rifle onto his back.  The magnetic coils in his armor doing their job as the weapon was secured to his back with a click.  “Alright” he said as he grabbed six of the bags.  “Lets move” Samus said, finishing his sentence as she grabbed the other four.  They floated down the corridor Samus keeping on her guard, John right behind her.  This woman, she not like any other soldier I’ve ever been with before.  John thought.  I feel almost. . . connected to her.  do I. . . love her?  ‘Love’  The word’s definition registered in his memory.  He had never felt it before.  But he liked it.  His thoughts were cut short as a bolt of green plasma splashed against his shields, draining them to 10%.  Oh shit!  He thought.  He turned, a Covenant plasma grenade in hand.  He armed it, and hurled it had hard as he could at the enemy behind him.  It landed on the unlucky space pirate’s forehead.  Right between it’s eyes.  The hideous alien managed a ear piercing screech before the grenade went off.  All that was life of the lizard like creature was a few little droplets of green blood floating in the air thanks to the zero gravity.  “Nice throw”  Samus said.  “Thanks” he said.

They exited the hanger and entered Samus’s shuttle like ship.  “It’s about damn time!!  I was starting to get worried!” was their only greeting as Adam came online.  “Who’s the guy Samus?  Old boyfriend?” Adam asked mockingly.  Though you couldn’t tell because of her helmet, Samus’s whole face turned bright red at Adam’s words.  “Sh. shut-up.  Just fire up the engines!”  She yelled.  “You got it” replied Adam.  John walked forward toward the computer.  He yanked Cortana from his helmet and moved the chip near a scanner.  The memory crystal in the middle went dark as she transferred herself into the ship’s computer.  “HEY!  Who’s this?!”  Adam yelled.  Cortana appeared on a nearby holo pad.  “The name is Cortana.  I’m his A.I.  And I’ve got a nasty little surprise in store for our scaly friends.  But I’ll need you’re help Adam”  She said.  Adam chuckled through the ships speakers as he read the plan that Cortana had transferred to his memory banks.  “You know what Cortana.  You’re crazy.  And I like crazy” he said.  “Hang onto something!!”  Adam yelled as he started the ship’s thrusters.  The ship raced toward the alien cruiser.  The laser cannons on Samus’s ship fired, the beams splashed on the pirate’s shields.  “Good, their shields aren’t that strong.”  Said Cortana.  “You know the rest of the plan Adam.  Let put it to work.”  She finished.  “Yes ma’am!” he said in an eager tone.  The alien cruiser gave chase of the smaller ship as it sped out in front of the Dawn.  The space pirates weren’t the smartest creatures in the universe.  As the alien cruiser reached a certain distance from the old ship.  “NOW!!”  Adam yelled.  Cortana snapped her digital fingers, and just like that.  The Archer missile pods on the Dawn emerged from the armored hull.  Suddenly, a hundred or more missiles launched from the wrecked ship.  Trailing smoke from their fiery tails.  The missiles impacted on the space pirates ship.  Their shields flared and collapsed after the first few hits.  The rest of the ancient weapons tore through the alien ship like a ten year old through Christmas wrapping paper.  One of the Archer missiles cracked the reactor and the whole ship went up like the fourth of July.  “Damn!  Nice shot Cortana”  Samus said.  Cortana gave the bounty hunter a look that just seem to scream ‘I’m a bad ass’.  Cortana then turned to John and gave him a wink.  “Well, now that that’s done.  Lets find the closest planet and get the light drive fixed.  Shall we?”  Said Adam.  “Lets”  said John as he place an armored gloved hand of Samus’s shoulder.  She blush once again.
